What to pack for Mauritania

Packing list tips

Mauritania image

Mauritania experiences hot desert climate year-round, with temperatures often exceeding 100°F in the summer months.

As such, it is important to pack lightweight and breathable clothing such as cotton shirts, loose-fitting pants, and flowing dresses that provide coverage while also keeping you cool. Given the conservative culture, it’s important to ensure that the clothes you bring are modest in nature; clothing that covers the shoulders, knees, and cleavage is recommended.

Additionally, it is advised to bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a light scarf to protect your head and face from the intense sun. While the temperatures during the daytime can be scorching, the temperature drops significantly at night, so it’s best to also pack a few warmer layers such as a light jacket or long-sleeve shirt for the evenings. Lastly, it’s important to bring comfortable walking shoes, preferably those that can easily be slipped on and off, as you’ll likely be visiting a good amount of homes.
